Cascara

Definition: Dried aged bark of a buckthorn, Frangula purshiana (FRANGULA), that contains the anthraquinone EMODIN and cascarosides. It is used as a laxative (CATHARTICS).  coord with FRANGULA when appropriate; in translations use "cascara sagrada", not "sacred bark"; use in therapy: coord with PHYTOTHERAPY
