Aldosterone Synthase

More information in Books or onNLM PubMed
Definition: A mitochondrial cytochrome P450 enzyme that catalyzes the 18-hydroxylation of steroids in the presence of molecular oxygen and NADPH-specific flavoprotein. This enzyme, encoded by CYP11B2 gene, is important in the conversion of CORTICOSTERONE to 18-hydroxycorticosterone and the subsequent conversion to ALDOSTERONE.  do not confuse with other cytochrome P-450 CYP's    Other names Steroid 18 Hydroxylase; Cytochrome P 450c11AS; Cytochrome P 450 CYP11B2; P450c11AS; Cytochrome P450Aldo; Cytochrome P450 11B2; Cytochrome P-450c11AS; Cyctochrome P-450 c11AS; CYP 11B2; Aldosynthase; Aldosterone Synthase Cytochrome P-450; Steroid 18-Hydroxylase; Cytochrome P-450 CYP11B2; CYP11B2
