Protein Processing, Post-Translational

More information in Books or onNLM PubMed
Definition: Any of various enzymatically catalyzed post-translational modifications of PEPTIDES or PROTEINS in the cell of origin. These modifications include carboxylation; HYDROXYLATION; ACETYLATION; PHOSPHORYLATION; METHYLATION; GLYCOSYLATION; ubiquitination; oxidation; proteolysis; and crosslinking and result in changes in molecular weight and electrophoretic motility.  coord IM with specific protein /metab (IM) and with specific modification, for example, ACYLATION; AMINATION; DEAMINATION; PROTEIN ISOPRENYLATION; etc.; do not confuse with PROTEIN MODIFICATION, TRANSLATIONAL; DF: PROTEIN PROC POST
See Also Histone Code
Examples Protein Prenylation; Protein Splicing; Ubiquitination; Unfolded Protein Response
