Definition: An enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosylmethionine to free carboxyl groups of a protein molecule forming methyl esters. EC 2.1.1.-.  do not confuse with PROTEIN METHYLTRANSFERASES; DF: note short X ref
