Anastomotic Leak

Definition: Breakdown of the connection and subsequent leakage of digestive system fluid from a SURGICAL ANASTOMOSIS of digestive system structures. Most common leakages are from breakdown of the sutured lines in gastrointestinal or bowel anastomosis.
